COS × Studio Swine | New Spring

Posted on 0 1 m read 150 views

Celebrating Salone del Mobile 2017, COS has partnered with London-based design duo Studio Swine to create New Spring, an interactive installation and multisensory experience in Milan’s historic Cinema Arti.

New Spring is an interactive installation and multi-sensory experience in a 1930’s disused Cinema in Milan. The installation presents ephemeral materials in a strange new context; delicate mist-filled ‘blossoms’ that disappear on contact with skin, but can be held by visitors wearing special gloves. Producing these blossoms is the installation’s bold centrepiece, a tree-like sculpture that references the ornate chandeliers of Italian palazzos and the architectural features of Milanese columns and arches.

SWINE (Super Wide Interdisciplinary New Explorers) is a collaboration between Japanese Architect Azusa Murakami and British Artist Alexander Groves.

Creating works that span across disciplines, SWINE explores themes of regional identity and the future of resources in the context of globalisation. SWINE’s work manifests a deep research into materials and modern industrialisation.

SWINE’s films have been awarded at Cannes and other film festivals around the world and their work have been widely exhibited at institutions such as the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Pompidou Centre in Paris, and the Venice Art Biennale.
